Demopolis hits three out in win over Greensboro

Demopolis handled its business early and authoritatively Friday during a 17-1 victory over Greensboro. The Raiders used a single and an error to score Ke Aysia Fields to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Kendall Hannah took a hit-by-pitch with the bases-loaded in the home half of the first to force home Elly Brown and tie the game. Kayla Montz then singled home Abbey Latham to give Demopolis a 2-1 lead. An error allowed Bria Brown and Hannah to score, moving the lead to 4-1. Montz scored on a passed ball to make it 5-1 in favor of the Tigers.

After a one-out Taylor Smith double in the second, Latham stroked a homer to left for the 7-1 lead. A Bria Brown hit-by-pitch and a Hannah double set the stage for Montz to move it to 9-1 with a single to center. Two batters later, Lane Braeden Burbage singled to home Montz for the 10-1 advantage.

Elly Brown and Taylor Smith opened the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles before Latham walloped her 14th home run of the season to move the advantage to 13-1. Two batters later, Hannah hit a shot of her own to center for the 14-1 lead.

Smith singled with one away in the fourth. Two batters later, Bria Brown doubled her home for the 15-1 margin. Anna Katherine Aldridge later singled home Bria Brown and Hannah for the final runs of the game.

Montz struck out eight over four innings of work and allowed one hit for the victory. Demopolis (26-7) hosts West Blocton Monday.
