Demopolis High principal Speegle takes leave of absence

The Demopolis City Schools Board of Education accepted a leave of absence for high school principal Dr. Tony Speegle Thursday afternoon during a special called meeting.

“It’s just a chance for me to relax a little bit more and regroup on some things,” Speegle said of the reason for his hiatus. “It’s an opportunity for me to take a break for some personal reasons.”

“We greatly appreciate all his service in the school system and wish he and his family the best in the days ahead and we’ll move forward with Demopolis City Schools,” interim superintendent Dr. Frank Costanzo said of Speegle.

Costanzo indicated the board will look to hire a principal in the coming weeks as the job will be posted by Monday.

Speegle has been with the school system and served since 1983 and served as principal at U.S. Jones Elementary School before being transferred to Demopolis High School June 7, 2013.
