Demopolis hangs 11 goals on Faith in playoff win

Demopolis (12-3) got a total of seven goals from Austin Brooks and Adam Brooker en route to an 11-6 win over Faith Academy in the first round of the AHSAA soccer playoffs Saturday.

Faith Academy pulled the game to a 4-4 tie with 38:49 to play when Collin Armstrong banged in an unassisted effort. Demopolis went on to score five goals in the next 8:10 to take a commanding 9-4 lead.

Cristian Velez took an Austin Brooks helper all the way in at the 37:46 mark to give Demopolis a 5-4 advantage. Adam Brooker scored an unassisted effort at the 34:23 mark to make it 6-4. Brooks scored at 31:33 before Brooker scored a pair of goals 18 seconds apart.

20150425 DHS vs Faith soccer-3105Armstrong connected on a penalty kick with 28:20 left to cut the deficit to 9-5. Armstrong scored the final of his four goals at the 10:43 mark.

Demopolis added a goal from Brooks and one from Jeremy Chu to cap its scoring.

Jose Maravilla opened the scoring with 33:52 left in the first half when he found the net off a rebound to put Demopolis up 1-0.

Parker Durkac repeated the feat at the other end with 20:37 left before half to tie the game.

Faith took its first lead of the game with 16:40 before intermission when Jarrell Williams found the net for a 2-1 advantage. Brooker passed off to Brooks at the 16:04 mark for a game-tying goal.

Faith found the lead again with 15:28 to go as Armstrong worked his way to an unaided goal through four Demopolis defenders for the 3-2 Faith lead.

Velez pulled the Tigers even again with 10:31 until the break when he scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-3.

Brooks got his first goal of the night with 4:35 until half to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead going into the break.

Demopolis took 29 shots on goal in the game as compared to 21 by Faith.

Faith goalkeepers tallied 12 saves in the game while Demopolis’ James Woods had 11 stops.

Brooks tallied four goals while Brooker had three and Velez had two.

Demopolis is set to host St. Paul’s Tuesday at 6 p.m.
