Demopolis downs Dothan, moves to 5-6

The Demopolis High varsity basketball team readies Thursday to depart for Dothan to compete in the Southeast Alabama Christmas Tournament. The Tigers wrapped tournament play with a 2-1 mark Saturday.

DOTHAN — The varsity Tiger basketball team wrapped up a 3-1 week Saturday with a 59-55 win over Dothan in the Southeast Alabama Christmas Tournament.

“It was nip and tuck. We just attacked the rim like we did the previous four games starting with Thomasville,” Demopolis head coach Rodney Jackson said.

Tommy Wilson led the way for the Tigers with 21 points in the contest while Cortez Lewis added 20.

The win moves Demopolis to 5-6 on the season. The Tigers opened the tournament Thursday with a 73-63 loss to Class 6A No. 4 Murphy in a game in which Kiante Jeffries scored 24 points and Roderick Davis finished with 14.

Demopolis got back in the win column Friday with a 58-47 win over Cottage Hill Christian. Lewis led the Tigers in scoring in that game with 16 points while Wilson added 14 and Davis scored 11.

Saturday’s victory capped the Tigers’ record at 2-1 in tournament play. Demopolis will play in another tournament next weekend when it travels to Washington County Friday for the school’s holiday tournament.
