Man arrested on multiple burglary charges

Marengo County sheriff’s deputies are trying to find the owners of a “bunch of stuff” allegedly stolen by a Pine Hill man, said Sheriff Richard Bates.

Braxton Cook, 30, was arrested Jan. 20 for theft of property, burglary and possession of stolen property. His truck, also allegedly stolen, remains parked in front of the Marengo County Jail filled with unclaimed items.

Among the items Cook is charged with taking are a refrigerator, amplifier, guitar, wheelbarrow and guns. The department has been able to return some of the items, but others cannot be traced to their owners. Cook reportedly sold some of the items.

Bates said at least two more arrests are expected, and more charges against Cook may be filed.
