Watchman to honor Jones’ legacy

The final phase of the West Alabama Watchman’s All-County Team will be unveiled Tuesday when it announces the recipient of the Charles “Tre” Jones Teammate of the Year Award.

The Watchman established the award as a means of honoring one player whose attitude, work ethic and selflessness helped his team to achieve in 2012.

The award is named for the late Charles “Tre” Jones, a member of the 2009 Demopolis High School Class 5A state championship team who lost his life prematurely in an incident in April of this year.

Following Jones’ death, Demopolis High head coach Tom Causey noted that the former defensive lineman embodied what it means to be a great teammate. In an effort to recognize those players of a similar ilk and to honor Jones’ legacy, The Watchman will present the award annually to one student-athlete from one of the seven schools in Marengo County.
