Watchman dubs Stenz Player of the Year

2013-05-25 19.25.33Chandler Stenz authoritatively grabbed West Alabama Watchman Player of the Year honors for softball this season. After earning the same award for her performance on the basketball court this past season, Stenz proved herself to be far and away the best hitter in the county this year.

The Marengo Academy second baseman hit a robust .578 in 2013, an average that was .131 points higher than the next closest batter in the county.

Stenz also continued to use her speed and base running aptitude leisurely this season, stealing 35 bases, more than twice as many as the next closest base thief in the county.

The AISA Class A State Tournament Most Valuable Player, Stenz showed tremendous growth in her game this season as she learned to drive the ball more consistently. Her 12 doubles tied her for the county lead while her 22 RBIs proved pretty stout for a leadoff batter. And that .733 slugging percentage of hers? Well, that was tops in the county too.

But the real eye-popping number for Stenz is 46, as in 46 runs scored on the year. That number is far and away tops in the county.

So Chandler Stenz is the West Alabama Watchman Softball Player of the Year. But what is really scary for opposing teams is that Stenz has one more year left.
