UWA women’s hoops hosts first responders

UWA women's hoopsLIVINGSTON — The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team held its second annual Picnic For First Responders over the weekend at the pavilion at Lake LU.

Head coach Craig Roden manned the grill while the players and staff made sure local first responders were well fed before returning to their posts.

The Tigers were host to first responders from the University of West Alabama Police Department, Livingston Police Department, Livingston Fire and Rescue, as well as the Sumter County Sheriffs Department.

“This is just a small token to say thank you to the men and women who protect us daily in such a big way,” Roden said. “There isn’t an adequate way to fully thank them, but we hope a burger and some hot dogs at least express our gratitude in some way.”

Roden said the Tigers instituted the cookout prior to last season and already have plans to host it at the same time again next year.
