UWA women’s golf ends day in fourth

UWA women's golfGREENEVILLE, Tenn. – West Alabama women’s freshman golfer Christine Stryken finished round one of the Tusculum Fall Classic tied for sixth place on Monday. Stryken carded a four-over par 76 to land the best single round finish in program history.

West Alabama finished the day with a season best of fourth place at the Link Hills Country Club. The Tigers combed for a 26-over par 314. UNC Pembroke currently leads the pack with a 13-over par 301.

“We had three golfer’s finish in the 70’s today,” said UWA head golf coach Adam Buie.”To be fourth out of 12 for a first year program is phenomenal. We set a school record today, but we will be looking to break it tomorrow.”

Stryken currently sits knotted with King University’s Elizabeth Swallow, while teammates Tori Smith and Jessica Smyth are tied for 14th place with six-over par 78.

Women’s golf will return to the course tomorrow to wrap up the tournament in round two.
