UWA volleyball downs Arkansas-Monticello

UWA VballMONTICELLO, Ark. – West Alabama volleyball combined for 15 kills in the fourth set to extend its win streak and put away Arkansas-Monticello 3-1 on Thursday.

“This was a huge victory for us on the road to ring,” said UWA head volleyball coach Jordan Lay.

“This is a great stepping stone for the upcoming weekend. Tonight we battled hard and showed great determination, which is something you can’t teach. This win should propel us into this weekend’s tournament and puts us on the right foot.”

West Alabama (4-1) improves its win streak to four straight matches and snaps six straight set wins by Arkansas-Monticello (3-2). The Tigers fell behind in the third set 25-19 after jumping to quick lead with 25-23 and 25-18 scores in the first two sets. UWA went on a 15-9 run after trailing only once in the fourth set to claim final victory with a 25-19 set score.

The Tigers were led by Morgan Ray on the attack for the second time this season. She tallied 13 kills and 15 points. Yanesha Johnson continued to strengthen the Tiger offensive as well, finishing with 12 points on 12 kills. Johnson and Ray have both led the Tigers in kills in the last three matches.

Libero Lindsey Ball continued to be UWA’s top threat on defense leading with 13 digs. She has led the Tigers in digs in every match so far this season.

The Tigers now remain on the road as they enter the Hampton Inn Invitational tournament hosted by Arkansas-Monticello.
