UWA up to 11th in D2Football.com Top 25

UWA vs Clark-Atlanta-9286LIVINGSTON — West Alabama moved up two spots to No. 11 in this week’s D2Football.com Top 25 Poll following a season-opening victory 42-6 over Clark Atlanta. The Tigers are ranked 12th in the current American Football Coaches Association poll.

The Tigers are one of two Gulf South Conference teams ranked in the top 11, and one of three in the top 25. Valdosta State (1-0) remained in the No. 1 spot, while Delta State (1-0) nudged its way in at No. 24 following a season-opening victory over FCS member Mississippi Valley State.

West Alabama ventures out of division this week, traveling to FCS member McNeese State to meet the 18th ranked Cowboys, who lead the FCS in scoring at 55.5 points per game and has scored in 17 of 23 possessions this season, 17 of the last 19.

West Alabama leads the NCAA Division II nation in tackles for loss and in passing yards allowed. The Tigers recorded 12 tackles behind the line of scrimmage in the season opener and allowed Clark Atlanta just 29 yards passing. UWA allowed Clark just nine yards in the third quarter and a meager 2.5 yards per play for the game.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT at Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, La. There will be no TV for the game, but James Hardy and Hunter Gibson will describe the action locally on ESPN 104.9 and globally on www.espn1049.com.
