UWA softball’s Atkninson headed into BJHS Hall

rp_primary_Wll_AtkinsonHUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama head softball coach Will Atkinson has been selected as a Bob Jones High School Hall of Fame 2013 inductee.

“Each year BJHS inducts deserving graduates, former employees and community members that have made a significant contribution to BJHS during their time here or post BJHS career,” said Bob Jones Principal Robert Parker. “This year’s inductees have represented BJHS in the highest possible way and we are proud to announce the Class Of 2013.”

A 1994 BJHS alumni, Atkinson went on to earn an English degree from Lambuth University in Tennessee. He is currently completing his Master of Science degree at the University of West Alabama.

As a student at Bob Jones, he excelled academically as a member of PRIDE and athletically on the baseball field. In addition, he was selected to attend Alabama Boys State.

Over his 12 year coaching career Atkinson has amassed over 300 victories. Under his six year leadership as the Head Softball Coach at the University of West Alabama, he has led his team to a 212-133 record. He has guided the Tigers to three consecutive NCAA DII Regional selections (’11, ’12, ’13) including the programs first NCAA DII South Region Championship in 2011.

Atkinson leads off the field as well, through organizing volunteer efforts, including his partnership with Friends of Jaclyn Foundation which is a non-profit organization that pairs children suffering from pediatric brain tumors with college sports teams.

As an inductee into the Hall of Fame, Atkinson will be a honored guest at the Bob Jones Homecoming Ceremonies on Oct. 11.
