UWA releases 2017 football schedule
Seven games to be played in the state of Alabama highlight the 2017 University of West Alabama football schedule, released today by Director of Athletics Stan Williamson and Head Coach Brett Gilliland.
For the second time in as many years, the Tigers open the season by playing three of the first four games on the road, starting with a Thursday night season-opener at Lenior Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina on Aug. 31.
The Tigers travel to FCS power Samford in Birmingham on Sept. 7 before the home opener against Mississippi College on Sept. 16. Sept. 23 has West Alabama at North Alabama for the final Gulf South Conference meeting between the Tigers and Lions before UNA transitions to FCS.
In addition to Mississippi College, additional home games are Sept. 30 against Shorter, Oct. 14 against West Georgia, Oct. 28 against West Florida and Nov. 11 against North Greenville. The Oct. 28 game against West Florida will be the 2017 Homecoming Game.
Rounding out the road schedule for UWA are trips to Delta State on Oct. 7, Florida Tech on Oct. 21 and Valdosta State on Nov. 4.
