UWA leads Don Hansen All-Super Region Two Team with nine selections

rp_primary_Skeeter__63_BROOKFIELD, Ill. – First team selections Javae Swindle and Skeeter Sellers were among nine University of West Alabama football players named to the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two team today.

West Alabama led the way with nine honorees, while NCAA finalist Lenoir-Rhyne garnered eight selections. Carson-Newman, North Alabama, UNC Pembroke and West Georgia each had six honorees.

Swindle, a sophomore from Jemison (Ala.) High School, was selected to the first team as a running back after leading the Gulf South Conference in total rushing yards (1,296), rushing yards per game (117.8), yards per carry (8.9) and rushing touchdowns (12).

A senior from Enterprise, Ala., Sellers was a three-year starter at center and made the offensive line calls for a UWA team that led the GSC in scoring (49.5), total offense (539.1), rushing offense (305.1), pass efficiency (182.9), first downs (288) and third down conversions (48.8%).

GSC Offensive Player of the Year Kyle Caldwell was one of four Tigers named to the second team. Offensive tackle Taylor Burnett, safety Demetruce McNeal and cornerback Malcolm Butler joined him. Tight end Ty Morgan, defensive end Mario Gainer and place kicker Mark Grant were third team selections.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All- America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.

The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named.
