UWA launches 30k in 30 Days car decal challenge

30K 30 Days web head 640The University of West Alabama has completed the first week of a month-long initiative to put the school’s name on roadways across the nation. It’s called “30k in 30 Days-The UWA Roadway Challenge.” Participation is as easy as placing a UWA decal, provided free of charge, on your vehicle’s window or bumper. The initiative runs through Oct. 11.

The initiative kicked off with the help of the Student Government Association and a parking lot rally to place stickers on vehicles. In one parking lot alone, more than 200 students, faculty and staff members agreed to have a UWA sticker placed on their vehicles.

UWA President John G. Blackwell assists with "30k in 30 Days - The UWA Roadway Challenge" by placing a UWA decal on a participant's back window. Blackwell said the overall goal for the initiative is to encourage students, faculty, staff, and friends to show support for the University of West Alabama.

The initiative began as an idea from UWA President

John G. Blackwell, who wanted to spread the UWA name across the map by having the visual representation the decal provides.

“It’s hard to pinpoint how or why things catch on and become a trend,” Blackwell explained. “But our thoughts are triggered by symbols that surround us. Having a UWA decal on cars across the nation in parking lots or on highways or the interstate, would be an excellent way to put our name out there. It can trigger memories and a sense of nostalgia for alumni, a sense of pride for our students, and possibly become an introduction for those who may not be familiar with UWA.”

In addition to offering the decals free of charge to all who want to participate, UWA has decals available for anyone who is willing to help distribute the decals to friends or family members in other towns or areas.

The decal features UWA’s logo printed on high-quality UV-protected vinyl. Decals are available in Webb Hall room 332 or at the Student Union Building, room 203-D. To request additional decals to help with the initiative, call 205-652-3892 or email pr@uwa.edu.
