UWA goalkeeper earns GSC honor

rp_primary_MSoc_13-09-06_IMG_0016aaLIVINGSTON — University of West Alabama sophomore goalkeeper Lavares Stone was named the Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week on Tuesday. Stone is the second Tiger to earn the weekly honor this season.

Stone recorded his third-consecutive victory in a 2-1 win over Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter on Friday. The Birmingham native set a season record eight saves after facing 12 total shots from the Hawks.

This season, Stone has posted a .838 save percentage as well as a .79 goal-against average through six starts. He is 6-1-1 as a keeper with three shutouts.

Stone and the Tigers return to action on Tuesday to take on conference foe Lee University. The match is set for 6 p.m. (C.S.T.) in Cleveland, Tenn.
