UWA drops to No. 21 in AFCA poll

WACO, Texas – West Alabama tumbled 13 places to No. 21 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll following a loss at Midwestern State on Saturday. The top five teams in the AFCA Poll remained the same, but losses by Pittsburg State (Kan.) and UWA caused a reshuffling of the rankings from No. 6 on down.

Minnesota State-Mankato holds the No. 1 spot for a second straight week, but lost a first-place vote to No. 2 Northwest Missouri State. Colorado State-Pueblo, Missouri Western State and Henderson State (Ark.) round out the top five.

Then-No. 7 Pittsburg State lost to No. 2 Northwest Missouri State, 24-15, dropping the Gorillas to No. 12. Indiana (Pa.) and Newberry (S.C.) both fell out of the poll this week, making room for Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) and Saginaw Valley State (Mich.).

There is only one Top 25 matchup this week as No. 4 Missouri Western State is host to No. 12 Pittsburg State.

West Alabama (5-2, 3-0 GSC) returns to Gulf South Conference action Saturday by hosting West Georgia (4-3, 1-2) in a 6 p.m. Homecoming Game kickoff.
