Tigers use 28-point fourth to beat Southern Choctaw

CHATOM — Demopolis moved to 6-6 on the year with a 64-46 first round win over Southern Choctaw in the John Taylor Tournament at Washington County High Friday morning.

The Tigers trailed 12-10 after the first quarter before doubling up SCHS with a 12-6 second quarter to carry a narrow lead into the half. The teams played to a 14-14 draw in the third period. Demopolis finally found its legs in the fourth frame.

“I felt like we woke up,” Demopolis head coach Rodney Jackson said of the fourth quarter, a period in which his team outscored Southern Choctaw 28-14. “We played at 12:45. I felt like my kids were a little lethargic. We were turning the ball over a little bit. In the fourth quarter, we put a little more pressure on their guards. We turned them over and we got layups.”

Roderick Davis led the Tigers with 20 points in the contest. Kiante Jefferies chipped in 14 points while Tommy Wilson finished with 13. The Tigers play again at 6 p.m. tonight against Fruitdale.
