Tiger varsity drops Beauregard, Jackson

Demopolis (4-2) put together its most impressive day of the young 2013 season Saturday when it downed Beauregard and Jackson in consecutive games.

Less than 24 hours after suffering a 5-3 defeat at rival Thomasville, Demopolis challenged a formidable Beauregard team in a contest played at Jackson High School.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second and made the lead stand up until surrendering a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to tie game. Demopolis responded in the top half of the sixth, hanging a three spot on the board before adding an insurance run in the seventh. Beauregard’s three-run rally in the home half of the seventh fell just shy as the Tigers polished off the 7-5 win.

Led by four scoreless innings from senior Will Tucker, Demopolis pitchers combined to scatter eight hits and six walks while allowing four earned runs and striking out seven.

Brock Montgomery led the offense with a 2-for-4 outing that included a double and a run scored. Wesley Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, a walk and two RBIs. Mason Rogers went 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs scored.

Stephen Stewart was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Tucker helped his own cause with a single, a run scored and a pair of RBIs.

Matt Eicher doubled and knocked in a run. Josh Mangum singled in the contest.

The Tigers then managed the quick turnaround to down host Jackson 3-0. Tiger pitchers struck out four while peppering six hits and a walk over the seven-inning contest.

Demopolis hung all of its runs on the board in the third inning. After Tyler Oates reached on a single and Mangum doubled, Montgomery delivered the big blow of the inning with a two-RBI triple. Rogers then drove Montgomery in with a RBI single. Anderson singled for the only other Tiger hit of the contest.

Demopolis is scheduled to play again Tuesday with a double-header at Sweet Water.
