Tiger golf moves to 26-0

Demopolis High School Golf Team defeated Fayette County, Washington County and Leroy High School in a four-team match Thursday at the Ravine.

The Tigers. with these three wins, equal their undefeated record set last season of 26 wins against no losses.

The Tigers play two matches Monday and Thursday against the Thomasville Tigers. If the Tigers of Demopolis win these two matches, they will have set another record for wins.

In the match last Thursday, the Tigers’ Blake Bryant was the medalist with an even par 35 followed by the rest of the team. Braden Spiller and Jordan Williams each shot 36. Sam Yeager, Payne Hasty and Chandler Stuedeman each finished with 39. Freshman Anna Reid shot a 38.

The Tigers tallied an impressive 146 as compared to Fayette County’s 160, Washington County’s 186 and Leroy’s 190.

The Tigers will travel to Calera to the Timberline Golf Course for a practice round Tuesday prior to the team playing in the 5A Boys Section 2 Tournament.

Reid, the only girl on the team, will play April 29 in Mobile for the 5A Girls Section Tournament.

“(They) will have to have their best performance on the 29th to move on to sub-state,” Demopolis High golf coach Sgt. Mike Black said. “The competition will be tougher but the team is poised to do good things this year and has really worked hard to achieve the success they have. Anna will have to play her best A-game to advance as an individual.”
