Thursday town hall to target social hosting, underage consumption

Underage drinking has been the target of numerous organizations in Marengo County for several months.

Signs saying “Parents who Host Lose the Most” have been posted throughout the area in an effort to make people aware of the consequences of those who allow underage drinking on their property.

A Town Hall meeting Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6-7 p.m., in the Theo Ratliff Activity Center will provide an opportunity for parents to get information about “social hosting” and ongoing prevention efforts in the Demopolis area.

Sponsoring the meeting are the West Alabama Mental Health Center, the Marengo County Children’s Policy Council (CPC), Americorp, Vista and the Community in Action Project.

The organizations are trying to create consistent parental and community norms that underage drinking not only is illegal but unsafe, unhealthy and unacceptable.
