Thibodeaux takes Thomasville past Sweet Water

Corrigan Thibodeaux connected with his favorite targets William Powell and Braylan Washington for three touchdowns in the third quarter Friday night. The passing outburst in the game’s third frame proved to be the undoing of Sweet Water as it fell to Thibodeaux led Thomasville 36-15.

Thibodeaux hit Washington for a 55-yard touchdown strike with 1:58 left in the first quarter and added a conversion run for the 8-0 lead. Sweet Water fired back with 9:41 showing on the second quarter clock as quarterback Jonah Smith punched it in from two yards out to knot it at 8-8.

Thomasville emerged firing from the locker room in the second half. Thibodeaux hit Powell for a 21-yard touchdown to move the lead to 15-8. The Tiger signal-caller then found Washington from 33 yards out to move the lead to 22-8. Things got uglier for Sweet Water with 24 seconds left in the third when Thibodeaux hit Powell again for a 12-yard score and a 29-8 lead.

Smith tried to scratch the Bulldogs back into the game with 7:10 left in the fourth as he hit Jaland Lewis-Horton for a 31-yard touchdown pass to narrow it to 29-15.

Thomasville polished the game off with five minutes to play when Quez Ausbon scored on a 2-yard run.

Thibodeaux threw for 169 yards and four touchdowns in the contest. Washington had 102 yards receiving on two scores on four catches. Powell hauled in two passes for 33 yards and two scores. Ausbon ran for 87 yards on 14 carries.

Shamar Lewis paced Sweet Water with 98 yards on the ground on only 13 carries. Jaylon Williamson added 75 yards on nine runs.

Sasha Smith intercepted two passes for the Bulldogs while Trent Sams picked off one.

Sweet Water (0-1) travels to A.L. Johnson next week while Thomasville (2-0) hosts W.S. Neal.
