Sweet Water’s Johnson takes Player of the Week honors

In a week when all six of Marengo County’s high school football teams won their games, no victory was more important than Sweet Water’s 35-26 triumph over Leroy.

The win put Sweet Water in control of its own playoff destiny with three Class 2A, Region 1 games remaining against Southern Choctaw, Choctaw County and Flomaton.

In the win, the Bulldogs fed junior tailback Jaylin Johnson time and time again as he amassed 168 yards and two touchdowns to lead Sweet Water to its most important of the season to date.

For his performance, Johnson received ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show Player of the Week honors Tuesday when he spent time with the show’s crew.
