Sweet Water uses ground, air attack to blank Choctaw County

BUTLER – Sweet Water High’s trademark ground attack accounted for four touchdowns and quarterback Branson Davis tossed two TD passes as the Bulldogs blanked Choctaw County 41-0 Friday night.

The win pushes Sweet Water’s all-important Region record to 4-1 with one Region contest remaining, next Friday against Flomaton. The Bulldogs are now 6-2 overall.

Against Choctaw, Xavier McIntosh opened the scoring with a four-yard run, and Deshawn Blanks booted the extra point. Soon thereafter, Davis hit Will Huckabee for a 12-yard scoring strike and Blanks’ PAT put the ‘Dawgs up 14-0.

Sweet Water continued the scoring onslaught with Keldric Green’s five-yard run, Paul Weatherly’s 14-yard touchdown and a 35-yard toss from Davis to Markell Evans.

A one-yard Greene run rounded out the scoring.

“It was a good win,” said Sweet Water head coach Pat Thompson. “Our guys went out and executed well. It is always important to win a Region game.”

Thompson said he expects a “very physical game” against Flomaton next week. “They have good size and they have a couple of good running backs,” he said. “We’re going to just keep working on Sweet Water and try to get better, then go from there.”

Next week’s contest will be at Nolan Atkins Field in Sweet Water.
