Sweet Water thumps Southern Choctaw in area contest

Sweet Water (19-7) opened its series against Class 2A, Area 2 rival Southern Choctaw Thursday with a 10-3 win.

The Bulldogs scored in all but the first and third innings en route to the win, providing more than enough run support to hand the victory to starting pitcher Jonah Smith.

The Sweet Water starter went five and two-thirds innings in the game, striking out nine while scattering four hits and one unearned run.

The Bulldog offense strung together 10 singles in the contest. Smith helped himself at the top of the order, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Cole Morgan was 1-for-4. Will Huckabee went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Wynn Thompson finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. R.J. Rodgers scored a run.

Branson Davis was 1-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Braden Broussard scored a run while Luke Davis was 1-for-4. Shamar Lewis went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Sweet Water stole a total of 10 bases in the contest. Huckabee, Smith and Thompson each stole two while Luke Davis, Hunter Mendenhall, Branson Davis and Morgan swiped one apiece.

The Bulldogs are set to return home Friday to host Southern Choctaw in a double-header to close out Area 2 play.
