Sweet Water sweeps 2A, Area 2 slate

Sweet Water (21-7) extended its winning streak to six games and capped off a perfect run through Class 2A, Area 2 play with a pair of dominating wins over Southern Choctaw Friday.

Sweet Water 15, Southern Choctaw 1

The Bulldogs scored all their runs in the first three innings of a 15-1 win over Southern Choctaw in game one Friday. Wynn Thompson struck out three over two and a third innings before giving way to Chase Joiner, who struck out three over two and two-thirds innings. The pair combined to allow only four hits.

Jonah Smith went 1-for-3 in the contest with a run scored. Cole Morgan was 2-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Will Huckabee finished 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

Thompson went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. R.J. Rodgers scored a run. Chase Joiner stole a base and scored two runs. Branson Davis went 1-for-3 with a double, one run scored and two driven in. Braden Broussard finished 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

Luke Davis went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Taylor Lewis scored a run and stole a base. Shamar Lewis finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Sweet Water 15, Southern Choctaw 0

Sweet Water mauled Southern Choctaw 15-0 in the final contest of the two-night, three-game set. Chance Broussard struck out two over three innings of work for the complete game win.

Smith went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Morgan went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Huckabee went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and a run scored.

Thompson and Hunter Mendenhall each went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Chance Broussard went 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Sasha Smith scored a run.

Branson Davis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Rodgers scored a run. Joiner went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Sweet Water is set to play at Jackson Tuesday before hosting Demopolis Thursday.
