Sweet Water softball drops two to large class teams

Sweet Water dropped a pair of games against larger classification foes Friday night in Thomasville.

The Bulldogs opened the afternoon with a 7-3 loss to Class 4A Thomasville. Sweet Water led briefly after a two-run second inning that saw Natalie Luker score on an error before Eve Myers singled home Kora Myers for the 2-1 lead.

Thomasville stormed back with three runs in the home half of the second before adding two more in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 7-2 advantage. Kora Myers singled in Luker in the top of the sixth for the final Sweet Water run.

The Bulldogs had only four hits in the game including a pair from Kora Myers and a single apiece for Eve Myers and Luker.

Sweet Water (4-6) followed with a 4-3 loss to Class 7A Baker. The Bulldogs trailed 4-0 after two innings of play and were unable to dent the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth when Shakedra Brother singled in Madison Smith. Lindsey Davis scored on a wild pitch to cut it to 4-2. Sara Irvin then doubled in Brothers to make it 4-3. Sweet Water would get no closer.

Irvin’s double was the lone extra base hit of the game for the Bulldogs. Kamae Retic, Eve Myers and Brothers eached singled once while Lara Little singled twice.
