Sweet Water baseball debuts at No. 1 in ASWA rankings

Five Marengo County teams land among the Top 10 of their respective classes in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association baseball and softball rankings of the 2017 season. Highlighting the group is Sweet Water, the No. 1 baseball team in Class 1A. The Bulldogs opened the season 10-0 before taking its first loss in a 6-5 setback to Clarke County last Saturday.

Marengo Academy sits at No. 7 in the AISA baseball rankings. The Longhorns’ female classmates sit at the same position among the softball rankings. Sweet Water also sees its softball team sitting in the debut rankings as the Tony Echols-led Lady Bulldogs are at No. 9 in Class 1A.

Demopolis softball is at No. 10 in the Class 5A softball rankings. Two of the Lady Tigers’ three losses are at the hands of Class 7A No. 4 Baker while the other is to Class 3A No. 10 American Christian Academy.
