Rogers leads Marengo trio on all-state team

The 2013 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Baseball Team includes three Marengo County names.

Demopolis senior and LBW signee Mason Rogers made the Class 5A squad as a utility player. Rogers spent most of his time behind the plate for the Tigers in 2013 while also serving as the squad’s closer on the mound.

He finished the year with a .465 batting average to coincide with a .513 on-base percentage while leading the team with four home runs and driving in 32 runs. Rogers also went 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts. He struck out 19 batters over 10 innings to record six saves for Demopolis while compiling a microscopic 0.66 ERA.

Brett Davis earned honorable mention at the shortstop position for Class 2A Sweet Water. The senior hit an impressive .433 while leading the team in doubles, triples and RBIs (35). Davis also handled his share of pitching duties for the Bulldogs.

Brant Lewis pulled an AISA honorable mention nod at shortstop for Marengo Academy. The junior led all of Marengo County with 40 RBIs while also hitting three balls out of the park and .410 on the year while logging time at short, on the mound and in the outfield.
