Potential Magazine to host college workshop at Demopolis High

Potential magazine will host a free Countdown to College Admissions and Scholarships Workshop Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Demopolis High School. This information-packed workshop is part of a series of events designed to help 7th-12th grade students and their parents as they begin the process of preparing for college.

At each Countdown to College workshop, a panel of representatives from several Alabama colleges offers tips and advice to parents and students regarding the admissions process, as well as providing information on tuition costs, scholarship opportunities and financial aid. Representatives from the University of Alabama, Auburn University at Montgomery, Troy University, Judson College and Jacksonville State University are scheduled to appear at the Demopolis High School event.

Following the discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to engage in a Q&A session and speak one-on-one with the individual college representatives and receive additional materials.

Kristi Bise, a mother who has attended a previous Countdown to College workshop at Brewtech Magnet School in Montgomery, found the experience to be valuable and informative.

“Loved all the information– this event has us going in the right direction. My son is in 10th grade, so the more I know, the better off we are going to be,” Bise said.

Potential magazine is a multi-media resource for parents of college-bound teens. Potential plans to host 15 “Countdown to College” workshops during the 2014-2015 school year. Parents and teens in 7th-12th grades are encouraged to attend. The workshops are free of charge and open to the public.
