Panthers pummel Pirates for region win

DIXON’S MILLS – Marengo fought through a sluggish start to drill Class 1A, Region 1 foe Fruitdale 52-0 Thursday night. The Panthers leaned on their predictably strong ground attack to anchor the offensive attack. Junior tailback Alphonzo Lewis proved electric for the Panthers again, rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Lewis also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score. Calvin Ferguson ran for two touchdowns and five two-point conversions.
Quindaris Ausbon rushed seven times for 58 yards. Deldrick Bouler had three rushes for 44 yards. Phelix Hosea ran for 40 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Bouler finished with eight tackles and a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown. Ronald Bouler finished with eight tackles and a sack. Devin Harris had five tackles and a sack. Kevian Cade notched six tackles and a sack.
Marengo (4-2, 3-1) is set to host J.F. Shields next Friday night.
