Panthers fall to Southern Choctaw

DIXON’S MILLS — Marengo High (0-1) outpaced its opponents in the second half but could not overcome early miscues on the way to a 32-20 loss to Southern Choctaw Thursday night.

“They fought hard. They fought back in it. We just shot ourselves in the foot early,” Panther coach Dredrick Bell said of his team. Marengo trailed 20-6 at the half.

Michael Lewis led Marengo in rushing with more than 100 yards on the night, His evening also included a touchdown run as well as a scoring pass to Michael Kennedy.

Shamerian Lewis also had a touchdown run for Marengo.

Despite the loss, Bell was upbeat.

“They are a physical bunch,” Bell said of a tough Class 2A Southern Choctaw squad. “We’ve got a lot to build on. I’m pleased with it. We fought hard through adversity.”
