Panthers explode for 30 second half points in win over McIntosh

McINTOSH – Marengo High School snapped a four-game losing skid Friday night, erupting from a 0-0 tie at halftime to win over McIntosh 30-0.

“This was a complete team win,” said Marengo head coach Eberne Myrthil. “Our offensive line showed up tonight, and our defense did a great job with two goal line stands. All in all we played a very solid game.”

McIntosh drove to the Panther one-yard line in the first quarter, only to be turned away on downs. The defensive struggle continued through the remainder of the first half, but the Panthers scored 22 points in the third quarter to take command of the contest.

“We made some adjustments at the half, and were able to establish the run,” said Myrthil. “We had 330 yards rushing. We just kind of got back to the basics.”

Dewon Pritchett ran for 192 yards and two touchdowns for MHS, while Tavoris Harris racked up 101 yards rushing and a score.

Marengo High, now 2-4 and 1-3 in Class 1A, Region 1 play, steps out of the region Friday night to face Sunshine on the road.

“We’ve got to prepare for Sunshine, then get back into region play,” Myrthil said. “It was good to get our first region win, but every game is important now because we know we are playing for our playoff lives.”
