O’Pry inks with UWA golf

West Alabama head golf coach Adam Buie has announced the signing of Brannon “Boo” O’Pry to the men’s golf team during the early signing period.

“Boo is going to fit in very well with this team,” said Buie. “It already feels like he is a member now. Next fall he will help us out by making us even more competitive. Boo is not only a great golfer, but a great person and makes exceptional grades.”

O’Pry, a native of Salem, Ala., is the No. 12 ranked high school golfer in the state of Alabama by Junior Golf Scoreboard. He is the three year captain of the Glenwood School golf team in Phenix City, Ala., where he received Most Valuable Player honors and finished in the top five of the AISA State Golf Tournament in each of the last three years.

This year he has won the Alaga Pancake Syrup Junior Golf Classic and the Bud Burns 52nd Dixie Invitational B Division. In 2011 he was named the Alabama Junior Golf Organization Male Golfer of the Year.

Off the course, O’Pry is currently second in his class with a 4.14 GPA, and holds three positions in three honor clubs.
