Operation: Santa’s Sleigh Ride yields drug-related arrests

In the predawn hours of Dec. 21, Operation: Santa’s Sleigh Ride was initiated by the Demopolis Police Department with the serving of search warrants and arrest warrants on local drug dealers in Demopolis. Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese said this operation started over a year-and-a-half ago and this is some of the results of the department’s efforts. During the execution of the warrants, officers located a large amount of marijuana, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and weapons.

Suspects were taken to the Marengo County Detention Center to await bond hearing. Reese commended his officers for a job well done and also expressed appreciation to the 17th Judicial Task Force for its assistance.

Reese said that the name of the operation fit the season as “Santa knows who is being naughty and nice.”

Suspects taken into custody are below.

Johnny Gracie, 31, Distribution of a Controlled Substance (4 counts), Possession of Marijuana – Second Degree.

Ernest Glenn Bryant, 60, Distribution of a Controlled Substance (4 counts).

Darius Powell, 24, Possession of Marijuana – First Degree.

Kiara Brasfield, 24, Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

Demarcus Wheeler, 21, Distribution of a Controlled Substance (2 counts).
