Morrison, Midgorden earn POTW honors

photo-25In a week where only two teams in Marengo County won their respective games, the candidate pool for the ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show Player of the Week Award was largely limited to only two schools.

But when one of those teams pulled out a 60-59 double-overtime thrill ride of a win on the road against a Class 6A foe, well it stood to reason that Demopolis would boast the honor. The only question that remained was exactly which player would take home the commemorative T-shirt.

The answer was unveiled Tuesday night when the Coaches Show crew took to the air and announced offensive lineman John Anthony Morrison and kicker Leif Midgorden as dual recipients of the honor.

Much as he has all season, Morrison anchored the front line of an offensive unit that hung 60 points in the game. His work helped Roderick Davis to run for five touchdowns in the contest and was a key factor in the win sent the Tigers to 7-3 on the year.

Midgorden connected on all seven of his extra point attempts as well as the game-tying field goal at the end of regulation that forced overtime. On the season the player that known by The Watchman staff as The Norse god of Kicking has proven true on all but one extra point and one field goal.

The player were in attendance at Batter Up Tuesday evening where they received a commemorative T-shirt for the honor and spent time with the ESPN 104.9 West Alabama Coaches Show crew.
