MHS Panthers end season on five-game winning streak

Marengo High School took a hard-fought 24-18 win over Southern Choctaw Friday night to round out the 2014 season on a five-game winning streak.

“I am real proud of the game we played,” said MHS head coach Eberne Myrthil. “We played hard all night. We knew it was their Senior Night and they would be fired up, but we took advantages of the opportunities given us.”

Myrthil pointed out that the Panthers stopped SCHS on fourth down three times during the game. “Our defense really stepped up,” he said. “We had some young guys that stepped up. I want to commend our players, especially our seniors, our coaches and our fans. It was cold tonight and it was a road game, but our fans really came out and supported us.”

Marengo’s season ends at 6-4. Myrthil said his team set several goals at the beginning of the season, and although the Panthers will not be in the playoffs, he said his team reached the goal of a winning season.

“Our future looks bright,” he said. “We are going to build on this. This team really brought it together at the end of the season.”
