Fifty-one anxious and beautiful little girls competed for the title of Little Miss Christmas on the River 2013 tonight at the Demopolis Civic Center. The house was packed for the last of the forty-second annual Christmas on the River pageants. The Master of Ceremonies, Van Kelley, announced each lovely lady to the judges and a standing room only crowd. The fifty-one contestants were cut to twenty-five then ten and finally to the top five. After a lengthy and beauty filled competition, Mr. Kelley announced Little Miss Christmas on the River 2013 and her court.

Fourth alternate was Sasser Elizabeth Braswell, a second grader at Westside. Sasser was wearing a flowing turquoise gown with rhinestone detailing. A second grader at Sumter Academy was third alternate Avery Elizabeth Long. Avery was wearing a turquoise halter gown with a royal purple sash. Being awarded second alternate was Anna Weber Jackson, a first grader at Westside. Anna was wearing a pink satin and tulle ball gown sprinkled with stones. Lauren Olivia Tripp, a first grader at Westside, won first alternate. Olivia was wearing a turquoise sequined gown with a satin sash. And being crowned Little Miss Christmas on the River 2013 was Meredith Gray Patrenos, a second grader from Sumter Academy. Meredith was wearing a turquoise chiffon layered ball gown with rhinestone and sequin designs.

Meredith is the daughter of Gray and Shelley Patrenos. She is involved in gymnastics and likes art, mostly painting. Her favorite subject at Sumter Academy is math. Meredith loves spending time with her labs, Belle and Jinx. When asked what she thought when they called out her name as the winner, she stated, ” I was shocked and surprised.” Patrenos looks forward to getting to ride in the Christmas on the River day parade and going to all of the COTR events.

The top ten not listed above were Alle Grace Quarles, Sara Michael Overmyer, Adalyn Broox Lindsey, Madelyn Baty Singleton and Savannah Belle Sealy.
