Martin earns ESPN 104.9 Player of the Week honors

FullSizeRender-3They call him “Hawk” for a reason. Last week against South Choctaw Academy, Andrew Martin gave a whole new meaning to his nickname when he turned into a ballhawk in the first quarter.

After reading a run play and dropping the Rebels for a six-yard loss early in the first quarter, the Marengo Academy senior dropped into coverage, picked off a South Choctaw pass and took it 20 yards for a touchdown.

Martin repeated the feat later in the same quarter from 63 yards out when he intercepted an SCA pass, avoided a pair of would-be tacklers, picked up his blockers and cashed in his second defensive touchdown of the night.

For his efforts, Martin earned ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show Player of the Week honors. Martin joined the ESPN 104.9 crew Tuesday night at Batter Up Sports Grill where he received a commemorative T-shirt.
