Margaret Jowers

Margaret Mae Hoggle Jowers, 74, a longtime Demopolis resident, died on Jan. 25. Born and raised in Moundville, she lived most of her life in Demopolis until coming to call Marengo Nursing Home in Linden her home last fall. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 3 p.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Pearce, chaplain for Comfort Care Hospice, and Rev. Tony Antonelli officiating, Kirk Funeral Homes directing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dotson Hoggle and Kitty H. Parten; husband Winfield “Red” Jowers; two sons, Tommy Jowers and Reese Jowers; and a daughter, Connie J. Compton. She is survived by her son, Maurice Jowers (Katrina) of Demopolis; four grandsons, Dave Compton (Missy), Alex Jowers (April), James Jowers (Caitlin) and Dalton Jowers, all of Demopolis; and three granddaughters, Betsy Compton (Tony) of Jefferson, and Heather Jowers (Chris) and Blair Jowers of Demopolis. She cherished her great‐grandchildren: Will Compton, Gabriel Jowers, Brooke Compton, Brantlee Jowers, and Alayna Wilson. She is also survived by six siblings, Minnie Wyatt and Joyce Patrick of Demopolis, Catherine Britain of Duncanville, Mervin Hoggle of Moundville, Elijah Hoggle of Demopolis, and Paul Hoggle of Greensboro; and a host of nieces and nephews. She spent most of her career as a seamstress at Vanity Fair for more than 30 years. She enjoyed being caregiver prior to that at Bryan Whitfield Hospital and then also post‐retirement at Braxton Senior Daycare Center. She had many hobbies, including gardening, for which she was known to have a “green thumb.” She will be remembered by her family and friends for being an inspiration to all who knew her through the strength she has shown throughout her life, for her down‐to‐earth personality that left no person wondering where they stood with her, and most of all, for her ability to love unconditionally. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Marengo Nursing Home in Linden and to Comfort Care Hospice of Demopolis. Please contact either organization for details.
