Marengo Sports Hall of Fame reviewing nominees

Tom Boggs, chairman of the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame, has announced that nomination packages for the Class of 2014 have been received and will be thoroughly reviewed by the selection committee of the Hall, after which the five individuals chosen for the new class will be announced. Any nominations not selected will be retained to be reconsidered for 2015, along with any new packages received for 2015.

Boggs stated that he expected another sell out crowd at the Induction Banquet the second Monday evening of February 2014 and promised to circulate information about ticket sales as soon as possible.

In addition to the main event of recognizing the new inductees the program, which moves along rapidly and is always very entertaining, will include another excellent meal, recognition of past inductees, as well as a past county championship sports team.

The team to be honored for 2014 will be the 1967 Marengo County High School (Thomaston Tiger) football team, which after a perfect season, was selected as the first officially sanctioned Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A Champion.

As usual, other special individuals from the sports world will be recognized and another outstanding senior student athlete from the county will be presented with the HOF College Scholarship Award.

The Hall has been filled with truly outstanding athletes with ties to Marengo County and the sixth annual class promises to continue the tradition of showcasing the athletic talent produced from the sports-minded West Alabama county.
