Marengo Panthers reel off fourth straight victory, 53-0

DIXONS MILLS – Marengo High School rolled to a fourth straight victory Friday night, defeating J.F. Shields 53-0.

“It was Homecoming and Senior Night, and our kids were motivated,” said Marengo head coach Eberne Myrthil. “We played our style of football. We were able to run the ball really well. They were young up front and we were able to take advantage of that.”

Leading the Panther running game were Dewon Pritchett, who had 182 yards and two touchdowns, and Tavoris Harris, whose 161 yards (with three TDs) put him over 1,000 yards rushing for the season.

“We were able to get a lot of younger players in there to see what we’ve got coming back,” Myrthil added. “We played a very solid game on defense as well.”

The coach said his team, which is sitting at 5-4  going into this Friday’s game at Southern Choctaw, has made great strides in the second half of the season.

“We understand the position we put ourselves in with those early losses,” he said. “We’re not going to the playoffs, but we want to win the second half of the season. We’re 4-0 in the second half and we want to go 5-0. We want to finish the season on a good note.”
