Marengo High wins second in a row

After snapping a 17-game losing streak last week, Marengo High School enjoyed its second straight win Friday night, whipping John Essex’s Hornets 86-14.

Seven different Panthers scored in the contest – Dajquan Bouler, JaMarkus Pritchett, Travarious Harris, Jatevin Horn, Michael Lewis, Michael Kennedy and Shamerian Lewis.

Both John Essex scores came on kickoff returns.

“Our players are starting to take on an identity,” said Marengo head coach Dredrick Bell. “They are starting to buy in to our system. Tonight we were able to keep the ball on the ground and we got a lot of people in to play. We are still a work in progress – we could have tackled a little better – but with only five seniors, our future is bright.”

On the defensive side, Horne had two interceptions for Marengo, David Autry contributed two sacks and Justin Dunning added a sack for a safety.

Marengo is now 2-1 in the season, and will host Fruitdale next Friday. John Essex, 0-3, hosts St. Luke’s.
