Marengo High falls to 3A power Mobile Christian

With an eye squarely set upon lining up across from a challenging opponent, Marengo made its way south Friday to face Class 3A No. 6 ranked Mobile Christian. At 3-1 entering the contest, the Leopards’ lone loss came as a forfeiture against Florida-based Lighthouse Christian, a game MCS actually won on the field 49-6.

Mobile Christian used a 20-point second quarter to distance itself from the Panthers en route to a 34-6 victory.

Cameron Horne hit Keith Gallmon on a 29-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes into the game to put the Leopards on top. The next scored did not come until 8:10 left in the second when Troy Young sprinted in from 47 yards out. Horne then found Gallmon again for a 34-yard strike before Harrison McIlwain threw to Eric Poelinitz for a 29-yard strike and the rout was on seconds before halftime.

Cordarius Pritchett got his team on the board with 9:56 to go in the third when he plunged in from a yard out to cut it to 27-6. MCS stretched the advantage again with 1:17 left in the third quarter when Horne hit Gallmon for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

The Panthers had 167 yards total offense while Mobile Christian ran for 261. Quindaris Ausbon was the statistical leader for the Panther offense with 88 yards from scrimmage including two receptions for 71 yards.

The Panthers r(3-2, 2-1) eturn to region play next Friday night when they travel to Fruitdale.
