A large tree at the intersection of Lake Lane and U.S. Highway 80 was felled by severe weather Monday night.

Kevin McKinney, executive director of Marengo County E-911, indicated minimal damage after a significant storm system pushed through the county late Monday and into the early Tuesday morning hours.

McKinney said he had received reports of downed trees in Demopolis as well as others on County Road 19, County Road 57 and County Road 39.

Marengo County E-911 also received a call for a house fire in Forkland.

“It was one of those cell phone calls that got directed over here. It was a Greene County call but the fire department over there took care of that,” McKinney said.

All three public school systems in Marengo County as well as Marengo Academy released at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in anticipation of another round of severe storms bound for the area. As citizens brace for impact this evening, McKinney reiterated two very simple weather safety tips.

“No. 1 is have a weather radio,” McKinney said. “That is the No. 1 way to receive the warnings and then have a safe place to go.”
