Marengo dumps top-ranked Monroe in four-win week

Marengo Academy (19-4-1) downed No. 1 ranked Monroe 6-4 at Scott Park in Linden Friday. Hayden Huckabee (2-1) worked four and two-thirds innings for the win, allowing three runs before giving way to Kyle Friday. The Wallace Community College signee twirled two and a third innings of one-run ball while striking out five Monroe batters to ice the win.

Carson Huckabee went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs scored. The blast marked the third consecutive game in which the Longhorn senior homered.

Robert Tutt went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the game. Hayden Huckabee was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Friday finished 2-for-4.

The win followed a Thursday night tilt that saw the Longhorns beat South Choctaw 7-3. Carson Huckabee (4-0) got the win, striking out seven and scattering five hits. Daniel Pritchett recorded his first save of the season, striking out two batters and giving up only two hits.

Carson Huckabee was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in that contest. David Dunn went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Friday was 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

The wins punctuated a four-win week for the Longhorns, who downed Pickens 16-0 and 14-2 in a double-header Tuesday night.

Game one of the Pickens twinbill saw Friday (4-0) strike out seven and scatter two hits while walking none in a complete game effort. Hayden Huckabee went 4-for-4 with two triples, a three-run homer, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base. Hayden Hall was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer, four RBIs, two runs scored and a pair of sacrifices. Dunn went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The nightcap saw Marengo get a complete game out of Dunn, who struck out five, scattered two hits and issued no walks in the win. Friday went 1-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Dunn was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
