Marengo County 4-H Shooting Stars take third in state

The Marengo County 4-H Shooting Stars, a BB rifle team based in Linden, finished third in the state at the National Rifle Association (NRA) Alabama State Championship in Anniston Saturday.

Marengo County emerged from the Dixie Challenge – a regional NRA event that drew teams from around Alabama and Georgia – the No. 2 club in the state and punched its ticket for the second consecutive year to the Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match in Rogers, Ark. in July
Marengo County Shooters each posted personal bests in the event. Clayton Guy scored a 421 with seven bullseye. Lizzie Cannon scored 411 with eight center shots. Will Yates posted a 403 and three centers with Mary Creigh Smith right behind with a 401 and five bulls. Ansleigh Johnson put up a 334 with four center shots.
Anne Eloise Smith, who competed in the 10 year old division as an individual and with the Marengo team as an alternate, posted a 340 with 5 center shots, finishing in the top 3 in three of the four firing positions and medaling twice.
