Marengo battles from behind to beat Wilcox

After Monday’s contest against Monroe was rained out, Marengo Academy dropped Wilcox 8-4 in Camden Tuesday. Marengo overcame a 3-0 deficit after three innings of play to notch the comeback victory.

Singles from Riley Newton, Macey Petrey, Jessie Flowers, Brittan Davis and Mary Jordan Drake anchored a three-run rally in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Wilcox regained the lead in the home half of the fourth before Petrey doubled home Newton to tie it again. Davis and Taylor Jordan combined as the catalysts for four more Longhorn runs in the effort.

Newton finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Petrey was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Flowers went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Davis was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Drake finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Jordan went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The victory moves Marengo to 8-5 on the season following a 5-2 showing at the Morgan Academy Invitational over the weekend. Marengo suffered a pair of losses to Patrician Academy and netted victories over Lee-Scott, Coosa Valley, Russell Christian and Monroe.
