Marengo Academy varsity squads top Monroe in season opener

Marengo Academy opened its season with an impressive 4-3 victory over Class AAA Monroe Friday.

The Longhorns did all of their damage in the second inning when they strung together a hit and two walks to score four runs. David Dunn singled to open the frame before Cody Cobb and Davis Petrey each drew a walk. Dalton Daniels drove in one run with a sacrifice before Brad Collins singled in three others. Marengo tallied just three other hits in the contest with a single by Petrey and two by Daniels. Cobb, Petrey, Mendenhall and Hunter Parker each scored a run in the game.

Dunn picked up the win, striking out three in the contest. Collins came in for the save, striking out a pair in the process.

In the offensive showcase, Marengo Academy produced 19 hits including a pair of three-run homers in a contest that saw every Lady Longhorn player notch a hit.
