Marengo Academy blows out South Choctaw, moves to 8-1

Marengo Academy (8-1) trounced South Choctaw 13-3 Monday in a contest rescheduled from Thursday, March 3.

David Dunn picked up the win on the mound for the Longhorns, striking out seven. Caleb Broadhead, Hayden Huckabee, Robert Tutt and Daniel Pritchett each had multiple hits in the game. Huckabee stroked a home run. Weldon Aydelott and Gavin Bowden also notched a hit apiece.

The game came after a weather-abbreviated week resulted in a long layoff for the Longhorns.

MA last played a week earlier when they traveled to Russell Christian to picked up a region victory 10-1. Robert Tutt hit a homerun in that game and notched a single. Huckabee had two hits while Broadhead also hit a homerun. Pritchett had two hits and Andrew Martin and Jacob Beck had a hit each. Cody Cobb got the win for the Longhorns.

Marengo also played in a tournament at Morgan Academy Saturday, Feb. 27.

On that day, the Longhorns suffered their lone loss of the season to date, falling to Autauga Academy 3-2. Tutt had two hits in that game while Huckabee had one. Dunn took the los.

Marengo moved on to beat Morgan 4-0 in a game that saw Tutt and Huckabee each record two hits while Aydelott and Dunn each had one. Adam Sellers struck out six Morgan batters en route to the shutout win.

Marengo opened tournament play Friday, Feb. 26 with a pair of wins. The Longhorns downed Cornerstone 7-1.

Marengo Academy then beat Coosa Valley 5-0. Huckabee got the victory. Aydelott had two hits in the game while Brad Collins, Martin, Beck and Broadhead each had one.

Marengo is set to travel to Pickens Academy Thursday.
